GENERAL NEWS

The Guy Wallace Foundation Appeal
A launch dinner for the Guy Wallace Foundation Appeal was held last Saturday night at the Fairbridge Alcoa ODE.

The event was designed to get everyone together to hear about the plans to raise enough money to allow Guy to move back to the farm and live a better quality of life and most importantly to be back with the horses. The night was a wonderful success with over 180 people attending.

Whilst the intention was not to raise money large amounts of money "on the night" but rather raise awareness, there were people who chose to write out some generous cheques in support of Guy.

Guy himself made a great speech and explained how much difference to his quality of life and rehabilitation the previous fundraising efforts have made. (The wheelchair access van to travel around in, 4*4 Wheelchair, Walking Machine etc)

There was more than one of our strong equestrian men fighting back the tears when they heard him offer his sincere thanks to anyone who could help.

Then of course there were a few wise cracks from Guy to lighten us all up. The night was going well until the Narrogin contingent got control of the Karaoke microphone. From then on the night was full of fun laughter and exuberant singing.

On behalf of the Appeal committee I would like to thank all those who joined us to make the night a success.

Regards,
Mike Bennett

Guy Wallace on ABC tonight
The ABC are doing a story on the lack of full care facilities to service young disabled people and Guy is one of the main case studies.

The situation is that once a person's condition has stabilised, they are moved out of the rehabilitation facilities to longer term care. This longer term care is the "old people's homes".

The issue with this is that someone like Guy, at his age and with his active mind, is surrounded by people seeing out their last days for the rest of their life. The young people see the older people come and go. They are faced with mortality daily.

There are no longer term care facilities available to house the younger more active disabled people.

Given that The Guy Wallace Foundation are starting their major fundraising effort to seek donations to help bring Guy home permanently to his parent's farm, it will be nice for people to see this story.

Tune in tonight to Stateline at 7:30pm and see Guy and his mother speak about the situation, there will be some footage of him riding also

Gidgegannup CNC
The Gidgegannup One Day Event was held in early September and this event cemented its reputation for being well organised and a pleasure to compete. There were large numbers of competitors in all classes however the competition ran very smoothly.

The CNC 1 * course was significantly improved from the last year due to its use for the National Pony Club Championships and designer Tom Compagonini produced a tough technical track which caused a fair degree of trouble. The CNC 1 * Class was a large quality field due to there being no 2 * Class and a number of riders deciding to compete down a grade and there were also a number of the young successful prenogas horses coming through for their first run.

Carly Brown on her exciting young 2 * horse, Just Corona, had an excellent dressage score of 43.6 and were one of only two clear showjumping rounds over a tough showjumping course which caused a lot of trouble. They narrowly defeated the experienced campaigner Sonya Johnson on Foreign Exchange who were just .3 behind Carly as a result of being the only other clear showjumping round. Third was Felicity Ives and Made to Order who capitalised on their good dressage score of 50 to just beat Michael Dagostino on Kendlestone Park Maxim into fourth position by one point. Fifth was Rob Vlasschaert on Mellene Park Skyshow and sixth was Kate Ingham on Springfield Caesar.

In the Senior Prenovice Class, Belinda Collier continued her very consistent form on Mr Rompa Stompa to beat Joanna Booker on Lumberjack OK. These two riders finished with equal penalties after the showjumping and Belinda was successful due to her faster cross country time. Third went to Annika Boxall on Sambarley Helsinki.

The Junior Prenovice was won by Aimee Williamson on Snappy Tom. This combination continued their consistent performances this season and were one of the few combinations over the weekend to remain on their dressage score. Second was Phoebe Tucker and Mindgames and Sarah Day on Ilbery Farm Altair was third.

In the large Senior Preliminary Class Dinah Fleming on Knightwood Saracen had an excellent victory with a leading dressage score and no further faults. They won narrowly from Natalie Barr and Holland Park Ambition with Kirsten Twining and Aya Soquili in third place.

In the Junior Preliminary Class, another consistent performer Rachael Ross and Bonnie Dunn also remained on their excellent dressage score of 42.6 to have a good win from Emma King and Jumanji with Jessamy Walsh on Koomba Ngort in third.

In the Senior Introductory 1 Class, Tegan Cook had a victory on one of her number of rides for the weekend Devereaux Direct Approach. They beat Danielle Risbey and Cavalier and Rob Vlasschaert on Maheno Lodge Laureate were in third.

In the Junior Introductory 1 Class, Phoebe Tucker on Gravitron was successful. The Senior Introductory 2 Class was won by Paul Clifton and Chocolate and the Senior Introductory 2 was won by Emma Stent and Electra.
