Remarkably as competitors arrived at the Laidley Show Grounds early this morning, they were greeted with the sight of flames and smoke still active at the fire which destroyed the grandstand early hours on Monday morning.

Mitch Coyle was pleased to be back in the show scene after completing his university degree and rode 'Daleford Savannah' to win the Champion Novice Hack and then go on to win the Champion Hack.

Sophie Ledger looked very serious as she presented her pony 'Maddie' to the judge in the Led Pony class but was successful in placing 3rd in the class.

Crystal Mort had a busy day taking out the Supreme Senior Champion of the Australian Pony Championships with 'Pacific View Sensation' with judge Tom Wraight and also taking out the Champion Lady Rider award.

Les Gilroy was delighted when his pony 'Aber-Deen Jaffa' not only performed to clock work in all classes but won the Champion High Point Australian Pony in Harness, not bad for a first show.

Kate Austin and 'Craigston Flash Jack' worked well in their rider class to win Reserve Champion Girl Rider.

Jordie Lee-Young and her new pony 'Riverglen Figureen' working out to win the Girl's Encouragement class, 5 years & under 8 years.

The wind became stronger as the day progressed and the local Fire Brigade paid a visit to dampen down the fire in case the wind caused any further spread of the fire. The grandstand was built somewhere in the 1950's and underneath housed the show society's office, small canteen, a well equipped kitchen and a dining room. Somewhat of a landmark in the grounds, having just had a facelift with the replacement of a new roof after a storm blew the old roof off some time ago and the committee had recently purchased new tables, all that was left was the kitchen sink which didn't melt in the heat of the fire.

Kelly Bond had a great day with 'Dresdon Touch Of Glamour' winning the Champion Galloway Hack and going on to win the Supreme Hack of Show.

Sharyn Ross and 'Belcaryn Wizard' had a successful day with the dressage winning the 1.2 Preliminary rider 17 yrs and over class with 80% and the Novice 2.2 class with 76.4%.
