| An Artistic Approach to Eventing at Northside Riding Club - 21st Jul 2010 | |
|
Teamed with Eva Rasmussen, Anwen ran the competition in her usual cheerful manner, feeding the army of volunteers endless cupcakes and supervising the course changes with an army like efficiency that would have made her uncle Neil Kennedy from Goulburn Horse Trials proud. Organisers would like to thank all the volunteers who helped set up, jump judge and pack up. Many new faces were on hand during course changes learning about the intricacies of distances and striding. The Northside cross country course consists of some fixed elements and a variety of portable jumps designed and built by Karl from Over the Top Equipment. Competitors negotiated tests such as the EA bank three stride line to the brick wall, a curving line of double Arrowheads, the Farmyard house to the liverpool, the Mitavite gate, the Equestrian Australia Apex and the final jump positioned in front of the clubhouse was the Rawson Block Wall. Cleverly built options were available and many less experienced competitors were able to learn how to read the flags and walk the courses with help from other riders. Northside prides itself on having a supportive atmosphere where riders can experience true competition environments before they venture into the 'real' world of equestrian sports. Riders were encouraged to ride safely on the slightly muddy grounds with slower times and compulsory trot flags on the course. The standard of riding throughout the day was impressive with competitors negotiating difficult combinations and a variety of elements from Newcomer up to Pre Novice heights. A series of clinics with Eventer Hamish Cargill has proved hugely popular and whilst the motivation behind the attendance for teenage girls may be related to the pin up boy status Hamish has, the results have been an increase in technical cross country riding skills for many Northside members. Co phasehead Eva Rasmussen (pictured)managed to take a moment out from organising the competition to complete a winning round with just one time penalty on her new horse Ruben in the Newcomers class. Fiona Downie on Tokyo Pearl was second and Sarah McVicker on Apache Dream was third. Gregg Mann won the Intro class on Harley Sirocco and followed this up with another win in Prelim. Stephie Collins and Mr Jettison was second in Intro and Isabelle Miller on Stoneridge was third. Jess Spence, more usually in the show jumping winners circle, placed 2nd in the Prelim class and won the Pre Novice class on Lighten Up. Super standardbred Samercan Bey was third in Prelim and 2nd in Pre Novice. Many of the competitors will be attending the Sydney One Day event next weekend and were thrilled at the excellent preparation they received at the NRC Hunter Trials. Northside recently agreed to sponsor the Sydney Squad of the new Junior Development Eventing. A number of Northside associate members are listed on the Sydney squad including Helen Diacono who made a return to competition at the Hunter Trials with her horse Priceless recently recovering from an abscess. Helen is aiming to be back on the Eventing circuit as soon as possible. Northside Riding Club will be hosting their championships in November with a event for each of the Olympic disciplines including another Hunter Trials. Randwick Equine Centre has already sponsored a class at each event. Other sponsorship opportunities are also available. More details can be found on www.northsideridingclub.org.au | |
