Tim Boland takes an early lead at the Melbourne CCI3* International Three Day Event Tim Boland has taken charge of the 55th annual CCI3* Melbourne International Three Day Event at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre. Boland and his 11 year old bay gelding, GV Billy Elliot, are determined to make the Australian Eventing team that will compete at the London Olympic Games and have come to Melbourne to show national selectors they're in form and ready to chase Olympic glory. The combination outshone the 18 strong field in today's Dressage phase, finishing with a personal best score of 35.00. The Melbourne International Three Day Event is the final opportunity for Australian based Eventers looking to record a good performance in front of national selectors before they finalise the five member team which will compete in London. "Today's test was terrific, I'm very proud of him (Billy Elliot) and thrilled we have recorded a personal best at this event. I am sure he can sense this is a big moment for us and he's delivered a performance to match." Boland and Billy Elliot have a commanding lead heading into tomorrow's cross country phase and if they are to maintain top spot will have to perform well on what is expected to be a wet track. Lauren Balcombe and Kootamootoo (41.20) are second and last year's Melbourne CCI3* winner Craig Barrett and Wendela Jamie (43.60) are in third. Barrett is also campaigning for a position on the Olympic Games Eventing Team and says his horse's best phase is still to come. "There's still a long way to go in this competition and he's (Wendela Jamie) always been a great cross country horse so I'll be aiming to go clear and under time even if the weather's wet." Emma Mason and Poker Face (45.2) are leading the CCI2* with Robert Palm and Koko Black (47.4) following in second. Mattea Davidson and Fairbanks Cargo (48.5) are third. In front in the CCI1* is Adam Benson and Brookwood Park Feuergress (42.70). Amanda Ross and Loxley (44.00) are second and Chelsea Priestley and Blame it on the Bear (47.70) are third. Tomorrow's cross country action at the Melbourne International Three Day Event gets underway from 8am.

	Grand Prix Dressage Reults


On a damp and cold morning at Werribee Park, Sappho Ransan-Elliott rode Hey Mish in the second day of CCI 1* dressage.	Local farrier, Vaughan Ellis rode a good test aboard Jane and John Pittard's, Mio Jupiter (that is full brother to Stuart Tinney's 4* horse Pluto Mio) in the CCI 1*.	Stuart Tinney rode Orchard Hill to be placed 6th after the dressage phase of the CCI 3*.



2011 CCI Three Star winners, Craig Barrett and Wedela Jamie head into the cross country phase in third place this year at the 55th edition of the Melbourne Three Day Event.	With London on their minds, the good looking partnership of Emma Mason and F1 Pharinelli finished in 6th place in the CNC3*.	Local rider and trainer Edith Kane was pleased to be in eighth place with her ESB Irish Justice after the dressage phase of the CCI3*.



Rebel Morrow from NSW rode Hillgrove Enviable, a Thoroughbred by Nediym to sit in ninth place after the dressage phase of the CCI3*.	After a good performance in Sydney, Tim Boland still has Olympic hopes for GV Billy Elliott. This combination got off to a great start, scoring 35 for 1st place in the dressage phase of the CCI3*.	The girls from Briagalong Pony Club (about 10 km from Maffra) have had an eventful week, after their school was flooded and they had to have the week off and then a trip to the 3DE.



Megan Jones rode Kirby Park Allofasudden to equal second place in the dressage phase of the CNC3*. This is a special event for some of the Olympic hopefuls, however the riders do not need to do any other part of the event if they do not want to, there is no winner.	Naralie Blundell and Algebra produced a good test in the rain to be placed equal second in the CNC 3*. However, 2nd to 7th place are only a point apart.	On winning form, Shane Rose and Taurus finished the dressage phase of the CNC3* in first place on a score of 43.6.



Wait, there,s more, with a Grand Prix CDI on Saturday evening to entertain the Three Day Event crowd that did not want to go home. Dr Kerry Mack rode her Mayfield Pzazz to finish the Grand Prix in third position on 62%.	Caroline Wagner was very pleased with her Tango V during the Grand Prix and they finished the event in second place with a score of 64.8%.	Heath Ryan and Regardez Moi won the Grand Prix with a score of 65.2%.
