Charity ride for Cancer Council - Ride with Pride
|Charity ride for Cancer Council - Ride with Pride - 4th Jul 2012|
20th-27th October, 2012 at Tugalong Station at Canyonleigh in the Southern Highlands of NSW
At the beginning of 2010 when the MS Society advised that they would no longer host their wonderful "Holiday on Horseback" there were many, many disappointed riders and supporters.
This started my friend, Louise Clarke & I (both ex-MS riders for many years) to thinking it would be wonderful if we could organise a "replacement" ride.
How to go about it was the question!
We heard about a group who were trying to do a weeklong ride to raise funds for Cancer Research (CCNSW) and so we contacted them. They had some great ideas but not enough "know how" or contacts. So my first call was to the MS Society Events co-ordinator to see if they would be prepared to steer us in the right direction, particularly with regard to contacts for donations of horse feed, caterers, volunteers etc. Unfortunately, they were not prepared to help us in anyway.
We then set about making lots of enquiries and started to put together a bit of a portfolio to help us. At this time the weather was against us and the Cancer Council Ride that was being organised had to be cancelled, again and again.
Louise & I then decided that we needed an organisation who could provide all the necessary trail riding "know-how" & other important components, such as insurance, qualified trail bosses, etc. and so we approached Tony Hart at ATHRA.
We also had several meetings with Cancer Council NSW who were more than willing to give us their support as long as we had all the major components relating to the actual ride in place. They provided us with one of their associated IT companies – Gofundraise – who would be able to set up a website for online registrations and fundraising facilities.
That is now all in place & the Inaugural 'RIDE WITH PRIDE' – to raise funds for Cancer Council NSW is happening. We have nominated that all funds raised are to be used to assist Cancer suffers in rural areas with much needed accommodation & transportation costs whilst undergoing treatment.
The ride is being held on 20th-27th October, 2012 at Tugalong Station at Canyonleigh in the Southern Highlands of NSW (just set up camp and stay OR avail yourselves of the onsite cabins, which have their own ensuites).
It is a week long, fully catered ride (sensational food) with 6 days of loop rides with a rest day in the middle of the week. You will need to be an ATHRA member to register.
We have already organised some great entertainment and lots of fun things to do in the evenings and on our day off.
Horse feed (Mitavite-Economix & Xtracool) & Hay will be available to purchase.
Have a look at the website – all the details and contacts are there and tell your friends.
Please "Come along to Tugalong" to make this ride a success & make a difference for Cancer sufferers .
