Buying and selling Livestock - State requirements

If you are purchasing horses which are to be kept on your property, you must have a Property Identification Code (PIC).

There are traceability systems to ensure that the movements of livestock are recorded and their origins can be determined. This is important in the event of a disease outbreak or chemical or other contamination issue.

Some state and territory requirements differ: locate your state's PIC requirements and apply for a PIC through the relevant office.

Non-compliance may carry hefty fines from the relevant State offices.
