Boneo Cup the premier lead up event to the Australian Show Jumping Championships.
This year we see record entries with 302 riders competing 618 horses for 1894 rides. To accommodate the record entries Boneo Park, Victoria’s premier equestrian facility will be operating four arenas, three superb Martin Collins Clopf surfaces and the premier grass arena.
Friday saw warm to hot but perfect conditions for jumping, In the early hours of Saturday morning riders awoke to the sound of heavy rain which continued throughout the day to dump over 40mm of rain on the Boneo track, but the track held firm though late in the day with the Australian Championships looming many riders elected to scratch from classes late in the day.
Sunday, pay day, championship day, the weather had cleared though the track wet was good to go.
The Cup now in it’s seventh year has seen Australia’s best riders take the Cup, Hamood, Hill, Arkins, Dobbin, Raymont to name a few. Last year the Queenslanders were on fire taking out the first three placings. Can Queensland do it again?
This year it was Tom McDermott (Mulgoa NSW) and Alpha Activity who took out the coveted Boneo Cup on a true but testing David Sheppard built course judged by Kevin Taranto. However the Queenslanders weren’t far behind. Hot Tom’s heals second was Oliva Hamood and her stunning gelding Alan111Z from Kilcoy Queensland, then Billy Raymont took third and fourth on Anssioso Z and Anton respectively.
