A new career chosen for Hartnell

Hartnell was known for his extremely good looks and as a fierce competitor on the racetrack.

Now the retired galloper is set to combine both of these attributes in a new career.

The former Godolphin 8YO was known for his ability to compete at the highest level consistently, securing at least a place in 50 per cent of the Group 1s he raced in.

Almost eight months after his final outing in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington, where he finished third, he is set to embark on a new career as a show horse.

Godolphin surprised long-time assistant trainer Reg Fleming with the news that he was going to be given the horse post-racing.
