Alpine brumbies won't be shot until winter as mountain cattlemen saddle up to save them

Parks Victoria has stalled plans to shoot feral horses in some parts of the state's alpine region until at least winter.

A High Country cattleman's push in the Supreme Court of Victoria to save feral horses from being killed means professional shooters will not start their work before June 1.

Philip Maguire challenged the State of Victoria in a bid to halt the shooting of horses under Parks Victoria's Feral Horse Strategic Action Plan.

The plan aims to eliminate a large number of feral horses in parts of the Alpine National Park, including the Eastern Alps and Bogong High Plains.
