What a weekend!
It was a record-breaker for Auction of the Stars at our winter performance sale with more than half a million dollars changing hands in the arena at Ryans, Heatherbrae.
Total sales amounted to $532,025 including more than $16,000 worth of stallion service fees alone, in our traditional no-reserve start to the auction.
The diamond in the crown was undoubtedly the renowned Grand Prix horse Utopian Cardinal, Heath Ryan's champion competition ride, which sold for $150,000 to South Australia as Lot 1 in a dramatic start to the auction. There was plenty of emotion from the crowd and even Heath's voice broke as he rode around the auction ring telling the crowd why they should buy the horse that he has spent years creating!
Cardinal is the highest-priced horse ever sold by Auction of the Stars, and the Ryans' imported stallion MSJ Nemo also exceeded our previous record, selling at a mighty $80,000! Not so surprising, given that Heath described him as arguably the best-bred stallion in the world today!
Beautiful young horse BZ Rolando (Regardez Moi/Jive) sold for $40,000, and in fact BZ Warmbloods had a brilliant day, selling six out of six horses nominated.
The lovely schoolmaster Let's Entertain sold to a young rider for $33,000 while at the other end of the spectrum, the bargain of the auction was undoubtedly BZ Ivy, a 10yo Ilkay/Salute mare in foal to Grand Prix stallion Fiji R, sold for $3500.
