Apprentice suspended for losing ride

Adelaide's leading apprentice Kayla Crowther will miss one month through suspension after stewards penalised her for a losing ride at Morphettville on Boxing Day.

Crowther pleaded guilty to failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures aboard Thompson's Reward ($4.20) when runner-up to Tiara Star ($3.20 equal favourite) in the $50,000 AAMI Handicap (1050m).

Thoroughbred Racing SA stewards believed that Crowther 'failed to ride her horse with sufficient vigour for approximately seven strides' to obtain a run between Brimarvi Vehero and Zarace with 300 metres remaining when it was 'reasonable and permissible' for her to ride the horse in a manner to claim the available run.
