Carnivals back in vogue as COVID-19 lockdown reignites people's love of fun and nostalgia

Trent Woodall knew within the first six days of last year's coronavirus lockdown that home life was not going to suit him.

The gregarious showman has taken his travelling carnival to all corners of Australia for decades, delighting young and old with a whirl of fairy floss and a touch of nostalgia.

But the pandemic brought his gypsy lifestyle to a sudden halt in March, resulting in a curious illness.

"Cabin fever — I just didn't leave the house," Mr Woodall said.

"Now that's normal for some people, but not for me. I got itchy feet about six days in.
