Colic strikes Melbourne Cup contender

British import Lord Belvedere will miss the upcoming Spring Carnival after suffering a colic attack late last month.

Trained in partnership by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace, Lord Belvedere displayed his considerable promise when cruising to a two-length victory over 2500 metres at Flemington on July 20.

But just a week later his health deteriorated and, battling a bout of colic, he had to undergo surgery.

"He's come through it really well," Eustace said.
