Collett Gets on her Singapore Dream Horse Aramayo in the Epsom

When Alysha Collett was riding in Singapore a couple of years ago, she would look at Aramayo and dream she could ride him. Never getting the chance when they were at the international track, she will get the ride in the Epsom at Randwick on Saturday.

Collett, who returned to Australia in 2020, has been drafted in by premier trainer Chris Waller for a couple of his lightweight group 1 chances on the weekend, and was over the moon when offered Aramayo in the Epsom.

It means she is doing a five-day isolation period from racing this week because she is changing from the country to the city jockeys’ bubble. But it will be worth it to ride the former Singapore star.

“He was one of the main horses in Singapore, him and [Everest-bound] The Inferno, when I was there,” Collett remembered. “I wasn’t ever going to get on him, so all I could do was look at him at trackwork and in races and dream.”
