Former police officer and mother killed in Leigh Creek plane crash was 'beautiful friend'

A former police officer and mother of five killed in an outback plane crash, along with the pilot, is being remembered as a valued mentor and colleague, as well as a "beautiful friend".

Rachel Whitford, 48, died when the Brumby 610 light plane came down in scrub near Leigh Creek Airport, about 540 kilometres north of Adelaide, in South Australia's far north on Saturday evening.
