From Texas to South Yaamba, Central Queensland gains one of the last 100 Galiceno horses in the world

Most pet owners think their animals are pretty special, but American horse trainer Kit Kirkwood's Galiceno mare really is.

Kit and her husband Bill Kirkwood took their children and prized horses and relocated from Texas to South Yaamba last year to experience life on the other side of the world, where Bill grew up.

Mrs Kirkwood said one of their horses, Dolly, is a Galiceno — a breed on the critically endangered list with fewer than 100 in the world today.

"She's the only one in Australia, she's my A1 mustering horse, and my daughter's horse," Mrs Kirkwood said.
