Further Statement Regarding Tamworth International Event

Following an assessment of all information available, it can be concluded that the injuries sustained by Access Years (11-year-old gelding) at the Tamworth International Eventing on 13th March 2021, was not caused by the rider, course fence 12, footings, the bank decline or water, and was an unfortunate incident.

Based on veterinary assessment and treatment, it was identified that Access Years experienced a lack of motor control in his hind limbs. With the consent of all relevant parties, he was subsequently humanely euthanised.

EA would like to commend the Organising Committee’s (OC) and the Serious Incident Management Team’s (SIMT) timely response, management of the situation and care for the health, safety and welfare of both the rider and horse.

In line with Equestrian Australia’s Critical Incident Management guideline and FEI’s Serious Incident Management Plan, all reports have been completed. EA considers this incident closed.

Our thoughts continue to be with all who witnessed this event, especially the rider, owner of Access Years, the OC and SIMT.
