Great turnout for Hunter Valley Showjumping Club's Spring Championships

Armidale's William Wood, riding Platinum Blonde, was the big winner at the Hunter Valley Showjumping Club's Spring Championships on the weekend.

Wood, who has just turned 17, has been riding since he was 4 and competing since he was 8.

"For someone that young to win the grand prix against such strong competition was an outstanding effort," said Hunter Valley Showjumping Club president Sue Middleton.

"Platinum Blonde was an Irish sport horse and the pair have been working together since February, so do that well so quickly is very impressive.

"It capped a great weekend of action - we had 129 riders and 635 rounds of jumping."

Allan McCusker of Tamworth won the Jumping NSW Amateur of the Year Series Class.

But the visiting riders didn't have all the success to themselves with a number of locals shining too.

Locals Abby Cooper, Wendy Platts, Oliver Craig and Prue Barrett were just some of the local talent to perform strongly over the weekend.
