Horror at race horse slaughter hasn't dampened the festivities

Those stomping their feet up and down chanting that the Melbourne Cup Carnival is not what it was are kidding themselves.

A report in The Guardian this week claimed that when it comes to the fanfare surrounding the Melbourne Cup, "the tide may be turning among a broader public." The article also stated that "dozens of people Guardian Australia spoke to … say they plan to boycott the office sweep this year".

This, no doubt, is true amongst some sections of society but hand on heart, nothing I’ve seen or witnessed over the past month would lead anyone to believe the spring carnival is anything but an overwhelming success.
