How did Jackson come into your life? Dave and Sue Middleton bred him and we bought him as a green broken 2yo. He was by our stallion PlayRio and we wanted a gelding.

What was your first ride on him like? Even as a young horse, he felt like an old horse to ride.

Did you have any training issues? No, he has been very easy all along, he has never done a day’s work.

How did he handle his first draft? Jackson is very natural chasing cattle, so he did it easily.

Jackson is having a super year in the campdraft arena. Tell us about your season and his top performances. Since April, Jackson has won 2 Opens, cut outs, Ladies and had four 2nds.

The campdraft classes have a large number of entries, what characteristics does he have that helps get you into the placings? He is athletic, calm and rates cattle very well.

You’ve won multiple cut outs this year. How does he feel in the camp? Very quick and cowy and knows his job.

Most annoying habit or quirk? Always trying to pinch a feed.

Strongest personality trait? Loves people.

Preferred work environment? The campdraft arena.

Work ethic? A beautiful horse to ride and draft. He does his job well with very little preparation.

Jackson’s a fast gelding that knows his job. Could you always see his potential? Yes, he’s always been a natural.

What does in between drafts look like for Jackson? He never gets ridden during the week and requires very little warm up either.

What has he taught you as a rider? To leave him alone in the camp, stay out of his way and let him do it himself.

Does he have a best friend? Another one of our geldings, Bushranger.

What celebrity does he remind you of? Someone who is casual, funny and very friendly. Maybe Hugh Jackman - he is good looking too!

Does he get much downtime during the year? He has from November to March off.

The next 12 months... a whole lot more campdrafting.

3 things we don’t know about Jackson?
1. He was Western Zone Champion Cut Out Horse for 2016/2017.
2. He never gets shod and is never ridden outside a draft.
3. If you stand beside him, he tries to lick you like a dog!
