Hunter Valley Ranch Sorting

Hunter Valley Ranch Sorting Inc has announced that they have over $30,000 in prizes up for grabs in 2019.

Ranch Sorting, a competitive cow horse sport introduced into Australia only 3 years ago, has quickly become one of the fastest growing sports in Australia.

It is a team sport that involves riders sorting numbered cattle from one arena to another in a certain amount of time. Ranch sorting caters for riders of all abilities and is open to competitors 8 years and over.

HVRS is affiliated with Ranch Sorting National Championships Australia (RSNCA) which hold a National Final in January at Tamworth. RSNCA has a close alliance with the US Ranch Sorting National Championships (RSNC) enabling Australian competitors to compete at the World Finals held at Fort Worth, Texas in June. Four riders from the Hunter Valley will head to the US this year to compete.

“We have some new sponsors on board for the upcoming year and along with some fundraising HVRS have a Kara Kar 2 HAL float, 4 Lone Oak fender saddles and 2 Wazz-A-Cow Cutter mechanical cows as major prizes for this year,” Jason Dooley, President of Hunter Valley Ranch Sorting said.

The Kara-Kar 2HAL float will be attached to the All Levels Handicap event. Competitors can elect whether they want to compete for the float valued at $16,750. The top 20 competitors at the end of the year will compete in a round robin final with the winner winning the float.

“Consistency will be the key to the All Levels event this year,” said Jason. “All scores from the first round at every show will be added up and count to the end of year results. This makes it fair for the lower to mid rated riders who may not make a final at the individual shows but can consistently sort cattle. The top riders tend to go hard and blow a few runs. “

As well as competing for the float All Levels competitors will be competing for a saddle and a Wazza-A-Cow Cutter.”

HVRS are also offering the following events as well as the All Levels : #10 Beginner Youth Ranch Hand for riders aged between 8 and 12 years, #2 Beginner, #4 Non HC, #10HC and Western Heritage.

HVRS dates for 2019 are: March 2 & 3, April 27 & 28, September 14 & 15, November 9 with the final being held on November 10. All shows will be held at Branxton Showgrounds.
