Jockey cops second life ban

A jockey has been disqualified for life after being found guilty of conspiring to harm a rival jockey during a race.

New Zealand stewards last week handed down the penalty to South African jockey Brandon Morgenrood from an incident at Riccarton in February this year.

Morgenrood – who was issued a life ban for race fixing in his native South Africa, which was later reduced to five years on appeal – was hit with three charges in relation to an attempt to cause fellow jockey Tina Comignaghi, who was also his ex-partner, to fall.
