Jockey sues after barrier incident

A Queensland jockey who suffered serious injuries in a barrier incident has launched a $750,000 lawsuit against racing authorities.

The Courier Mail reported on Tuesday that apprentice Nicole Vuille is suing the Dingo Race Club, the Central Highlands Regional Council, Racing Queensland and trainer Wayne Meek for the 2016 accident which left her with cervical, lumbar, spinal and head injuries.

Vuille was aboard the Meek-trained Rahula at Dingo when it became fractious in the barriers and, after its barrier malfunctioned by failing to open with the rest of the field, caused her to fall from the saddle.

The jockey, now 28, has not ridden since the accident.

In her claim, she alleges the racing club failed to ensure the barriers were safe and failed to act in response to previous complaints about them.
