Junior players, the future of the true Australian made sport polocrosse, took centre stage at the Stanley Rivers 41st annual carnival held over the weekend.

In the lead up to their annual carnival Stanley Rivers Polocrosse Club hosted Queensland Polocrosse Association’s (QPA) 2 day South East Zone Youth Development Clinic to give Juniors more confidence in their playing ability, rules of the games and strategies for the playing field.

The clinic, aimed at giving players under the age of 21 coaching to help them improve all areas of their game was run by top level coaches including Australian representative player Trent Collins.

Polocrosse is a fast paced team sport played on horseback. It combines the speed of polo, the strategy and tactics of netball (in terms of the field being divided in to 3 sections), the toughness of rugby and AFL and the ball handling ability of lacrosse. This unique sport originated in Australia in 1939 and is dubbed as the “King of the One Horse Sports.”

Australia is the largest polocrosse country in the World. The Polocrosse Association of Australia boasts a membership over 4,000 players nationwide spanned over 135 clubs within the 7 states and territories.
