Leonardo Tiozzo Loses Grand Prix Horse Karina

Italian Grand Prix rider Leonardo Tiozzo has suddenly lost his number one horse Karina. The 14-year old mare died of a suspected aortic rupture.

Karina was registered with the FEI as a "Italian Sport Horse" (MIPAAF) bred, but was in fact bred and born in Spain.

Yuyuba

Karina was originally named Yuyuba and bred by Juan Aguilar at the Real Escuela del Arte Ecuestre in Jerez de la Frontera. She was by the PRE stallion Bizarro xxx out of the crossbred mare Vigilanta (by Evento), who produced three fillies, one of them was Yuyuba.

Tiozzo and his mother Maria Cristina Proietti bought the mare in Spain as a youngster.

From August 2016 till the spring of 2017 Tiozzo spent half a year in Germany riding with horse dealer Arnd Erben and developed Karina there to FEI level. They returned to Italy in the spring of 2017.
