Motion Equine Centre takes management of the equine athlete to the next level.
Motion Equine Centre, based in Kilmore, Victoria, is fast becoming a game changer in the management of equine athletes.
The brainchild of Dr Luke Wells-Smith, this exciting new venture is designed to provide next level performance management for all equine athletes, from the elite to entry level.
What is Motion Equine Centre?
Working closely with the riders and owners of performance horses, the team at Motion Equine Centre use a range of innovative performance analysis tools to gather detailed information and create a comprehensive clinical health profile of each horse. This enables the development of an ongoing management strategy tailored to maximise the performance of individual equine athletes.
Targeted at the horse who is competing regularly and the rider who wants the best for their equine athlete, Motion Equine Centre uses cutting edge technology in their diagnostic imaging and performance analysis tools to examine the horse both at rest and in work. The data collected is then analysed in Motion Equine Centre’s cloud-based software and forms a baseline for the monitoring of the horse’s health and performance.
The Equine Athlete Management program therefore provides a new way for riders to gain an in-depth knowledge of their horse’s health, fitness, movement, and gait.
Who Is Motion Equine Centre for?
Riders from all disciplines are embracing Motion Equine Centre’s program as a means of maximizing the long-term performance capability of their horses through knowledge and information that they would otherwise not have access to.
The detailed nature of the analysis work done by the team at Motion Equine Centre means that it also provides a valuable resource to vets and allied health care professionals for referring complex cases that need further specialised diagnosis. The Motion Equine Centre team work collaboratively with the referring vet and the horse’s owner to develop an ongoing management plan that can then be overseen by the referring vet.

Dr Luke Wells-Smith, founder of Motion Equine Centre, is a highly experienced equine veterinarian with a passion for applying objective and scientific analysis to the practical management and performance enhancement of the equine athlete. Luke is widely known in Australia and internationally for his expertise in addressing hoof related lameness and offering high level veterinary podiatry consulting to equine performance athletes.
Luke is joined at Motion Equine Centre by Dr Anushka von Oppen, whose particular interest is in the neck, back, sacroiliac, and lumbosacral joints. Anushka brings extensive experience in advanced ultrasonography to Motion Equine Centre, expanding the Centre’s ability to provide leading edge diagnostic imaging.
Luke and Anushka are supported by a team of like-minded, committed, and experienced consultants and assistants.
