New apprentices start RV program

The newest recruits to the Victorian apprentice ranks are some of the most advanced newcomers that have ever started the program according to Racing Victoria's Apprentice Jockey Coach Darren Gauci.

There's been a sharp focus the past few years in bringing in already capable riders to the program and the latest five pupils to start their tutelage are no exception.

"It was so competitive for them to even get into the program and I'm confident it won't be long before we see them at the races," Gauci said.

"But there's still so much for them to learn and this is always an exciting time at the very start of their journeys to becoming jockeys, it's like the first day at school."
