New dressage series launched for Off The Track horses

Racing Victoria (RV) is excited to partner with Boneo Park to offer the first official dressage series for Off The Track (OTT) horses at an official Equestrian Australia (EA) dressage competition.

The new RV OTT series will be held at EA preliminary and novice levels and will offer competitors the chance to share in $7,000 worth of prizemoney.

The series will include two tests at both preliminary and novice levels and will be offered at each Boneo Park dressage competition from January – June 2021.

Competition points will be gained for placings in each test. The winner of the novice and preliminary leaderboard will each receive $2,000 and an embroidered OTT rug.

Those who finish second will receive $1,000, while third will take home $500.

RV General Manager - Equine Welfare, Jennifer Hughes, is pleased to see a return to equestrian events in Victoria.

“We are very excited to be able to partner with Boneo Park to deliver even more opportunities for our Off The Track community, especially as they’ve missed out on competing for months due to the coronavirus pandemic,” she said.

“The thoroughbred is such a versatile horse, and with the right retraining they can become very competitive dressage horses.

“To have a dedicated series for Off The Track horses is wonderful and I can’t wait to get down to Boneo Park to see all the action.”

Boneo Park Managing Director, Fiona Selby, is very optimistic about the new series.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to attract more Off The Track horses to the sport of dressage,” she said.

“The prizemoney on offer is also a great incentive for those thinking about competing.

“In this unique series, competitors will go up against other thoroughbred horses which allows for a more level playing field than open classes, where they would be competing against purpose-bred warmbloods.

“There have previously been some very successful thoroughbred horses competing up to Grand Prix level in dressage, so we hope that this series will draw even more thoroughbreds to our dressage events.”
