Racehorse abuse expose did not defame V'landys, ABC argues

The ABC is set to argue in federal court that its investigation into the horse racing industry did not defame Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'landys.

V'landys is personally suing the media corporation and journalist Caro Meldrum-Hanna over an expose aired on 7.30 late last year, which revealed acts of cruelty against former racehorses across Australia.

The ABC has now filed its defence, denying that the story was defamatory to the Racing NSW boss.

"We do not believe the story was defamatory of Peter V’landys and will defend the matter in court," a spokeswoman for the ABC said.
