Reed scoops Young Rider Classic in showjumping

CONOR Reed, of Adelaide, scooped the major prizes at Mount Gambier’s junior and young rider showjumping carnival last weekend.

At the Mount Gambier showgrounds on Sunday, Conor took out first, second and third placings in the final and major class of the carnival being the Young Rider Classic jumping fences at a height of 1.3 metres.

He rode his striking grey 10 year old gelding Leopoldo MVNZ to victory followed by his bay mare Caveton Park Legacy in second, while his 16 year old gelding Calypso 419 placed third.

Fourth in the event was Abbie Lewis, also of Adelaide, with Tulara WAT Conikka.

Run by the Mount Gambier Show Jumping Club, the carnival is held annually and is the only one of its kind in South Australia with its focus on riders under 21 years of age.

Course designer for the event and President of the Club, David Johnson said the event began last Thursday with training sessions for young riders and continued with competition over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Mr Johnson said the event had attracted about 75 competitors hailing from Adelaide, Western Victoria and locally.
