Shire Horse Breeders Australia Inc - 9th National Shire Show- Moss Vale 23 February 2020

The National Shire Show, which includes the Southern Highlands Heavy Horse Show, is back for another year!

The 2019 Show, held at the Moss Vale Showgrounds, was a stand-out with over 50 heavy horses strutting their stuff in the rings. Over 350 people braved the chilling conditions to come and see these magnificent horses working, walking and even taking part in dressage. The public were also able to visit the stable areas and see the horses getting ready for their events.

In recognition of the current circumstances, we will be shortening the show to one day this year. The program is still full of great events and we will be encouraging the public to come down the the stables and yards to see these gentle giants up close and personal!

The President of the Shire Horse Breeders Association, Cai Thomas, said, ‘We believe strongly in this Show and we don’t want to let exhibitors, members or the public down. We also can’t ignore the impact both bushfires and drought have had on the Southern Highlands and other communities across NSW. We know many of our exhibitors are currently hand feeding their horses, which isn’t cheap or easy. A one-day show allows exhibitors to minimise time away from their farms, while also reducing the time and money involved in showing, making it possible for us to go ahead with consideration for all involved.’

The shortened program will still include standard led and ridden classes as well as dressage, harness and fun activities like the pumpkin snatch. The Concours d’Elegance will be held over lunch and if you love gorgeous outfits, this is a must-see.

We’d like to acknowledge the extraordinary effort made by the Rural Fire Service under very trying conditions all over the state, so we will be donating all gate takings to the RFS.

Date: 23 February 2020
