Showcase of Dressage in Werribee

This year’s Victorian Dressage Championships has plenty to offer the dressage enthusiast. From December 6 – 9, the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre will showcase dressage across the levels.

“We’ve had good entries, with big reserve lists in the Preliminary, Novice and Medium Championships, and at the other end of the scale - small but high quality entrants in the Young Horse & Pony classes and the Para Equestrian section. Overall Pony numbers are up and for the first time we have a Pony Prix St Georges Championships”, says Event Director, Caroline Coleby.

“We have over 200 riders coming from all over Victoria as well as from South Australia and New South Wales to compete in the Championship classes. And once again, we’re running Participation classes at Preliminary and Novice level to give lower level riders the opportunity to experience competing at a Championship event”.

There’s also a Pony Club event on the Saturday and HRCAV classes on the Sunday, so the Championships really does showcase dressage across all age and experience levels: from the youngest and least experienced all the way through to elite riders such as World Equestrian Games representative rider.

Maree Tomkinson, and 2012 London Olympics Gold medallist, Para Equestrian Joann Formosa.

Saturday night is always a fun one for the spectators. The highlight is the Jill Cobcroft & Glenn Fryer Grand Prix Freestyle, but there’s also the Medium Tour Freestyle, the always popular “Anky Australia Canine Challenge” and presentation of the 2018 Victorian Dressage Performance Awards. Admission is free, other than a $5 vehicle admission, and a Spit Roast Dinner to enjoy can be prepurchased for $25 (https://www.trybooking.com/ZFZY).

Of course being so close to Christmas there will be a trade village for Christmas shopping. And all spectators have the chance to win a 2 night stay for 2 people at Manderley Park B & B in beautiful Gippsland – a great incentive to attend ! The more days you attend, the more chances to win !

Spectators welcome each day with a $5 car admission. Visit www.vicdressagechamps.org.au to stay up to date with the timetable, competition draws and results.
