Tasmanian showjumping championships set for Westbury

Tasmania's brightest and best showjumpers are set to converge on the Westbury Showgrounds this weekend with the 2019 Jumping Tasmania state titles taking place.

Featuring two classes of action - championship and speed - precision and pace will be on show with spectators encouraged to come and check out the state's elite.

Championship events see riders aim to compete the course within a previously set time without knocking any poles or having any refusals at fences. Competed over two rounds, riders who achieve this will then battle head-to-head in a third-round jump-off against the clock.

Speed class races still see riders aim to not knock over poles or have refusals, but the quickest time will be rewarded with the victory.

Sunday's action will provide a personal highlight for the spectators with competitors set to don costumes and complete the speed course in the fastest possible time.

Run by Jumping Tasmania's Northern branch, the statewide event will feature competitors of all ages and ability levels with 14-and-under, under-21 and open groupings on the card.

With spectators able to come along free of charge, the event will also run alongside a trade exposition, with local businesses combining to display their products.

Event organisers say they are thankful for the help of these businesses with a backbone of loyal and experienced volunteers set to help the titles run smoothly.
