The Australian women taking on the male-dominated sport of bull riding

Two women in Western Australia's Kimberley region have teamed up to break into the male-dominated sport of bull riding.

By day Ruth Vogelsang works as a medical scientist in Kununurra but in her spare time she is becoming known as one of the Top End's gutsiest bull riders. The East Kimberley thrillseeker competes in rodeos across the Kimberley and Northern Territory.

Recently competing in the Noonamah and Mataranka Rodeos in NT, Vogelsang said it was not uncommon for her to be the only female bull rider on an event card.

"[Noonamah] is the biggest rodeo I have ever been in and the biggest bull I've ever ridden too," she said.
