The HUBSIDE Spring tour will host all the big names for the launch of its third season

On 29 April, the best horse and rider combinations will head towards the French Riviera and the HUBSIDE JUMPING Grimaud-Gulf of Saint-Tropez, to a show that they now know like the back of their hands, having competed here eleven times last year, when the show jumping world had almost ground to a halt. A show that they know and really like: half of the World Top15 has accepted Sadri Fegaier’s first invitation and will be present for the beginning of the 2021 season.

This week’s CSI 4* will set the tone of the 2021 HUBSIDE JUMPING! Professional competition behind closed doors.

This week’s HUBSIDE SPRING TOUR is the first CSI 4* organised in France this year and may well kick off a season which is just as exceptional as last year’s. All the best European riders (and the Americans living in Europe) made Grimaud their base, as it was THE place to be. They are loyal to the show and are coming back for the spring event created by Sadri Fegaier, the founder of the HUBSIDE JUMPING. The World number 1, Switzerland’s Steve Guerdat, who last year won the first post-lockdown CSI 5* of a season which only had six (including four as part of the HUBSIDE JUMPING), and the rider who is just behind him in the world rankings, Germany’s Daniel Deusser, are expected in particular. The rider who was the winner of the 2014 Longines FEI World Cup Final in Lyon as well as the last HUBSIDE JUMPING Grand Prix in 2020 is currently on a roll! In the last few weeks, the World number 2 has won no less than seven classes at the Winter Equestrian Festival, in Wellington, Florida...including four Grands Prix (two 4* Grands Prix and two 5* Grands Prix)! In particular, he will be bringing his star Killer Queen VDM with him to Grimaud, with which he achieved 50 percent of his American victories. Austria’s Max Kühner, the other rider in fine form over the past few weeks, who won the 5* Rolex Grand Slam at the Dutch Masters in Den Bosch last weekend, will naturally be competing, as will Scotland’s Scott Brash, currently eighth in the world rankings, who already won three 4* Grands Prix in Grimaud in 2019 and 2020. Other renowned riders, whose names are featured on the HUBSIDE JUMPING’s list of winners, are also expected on the French Riviera, such as Niels Bruynseels, World number 11, the winner in 2020 of two HUBSIDE Grands Prix, and Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli, fifteenth in the Longines Rankings, for whom the HUBSIDE JUMPING will always be associated with his first victory in a 5* Grand Prix. As for France, Julien Epaillard, the current best French rider and the winner of many classes last year in Grimaud, will be present.

A lady rider in the Grand Prix (finally)?

Of the eighty 4 or 5* Grands Prix organised in Grimaud since the HUBSIDE JUMPING began in April 2019, only one has been won by a lady rider. America’s Laura Kraut won the second last 4* Grand Prix of the first season with Fleurette; this week she will try to show her male counterparts that she is the one who is calling the shots. All eyes will be on the other American rider, who just like Laura Kraut, is on the United States’ Olympic short list: Jessica Springsteen, the winner of the 2019 Longines Global Champions Tour of Ramatuelle/Saint-Tropez will be competing in this initial event on the French Riviera. Two lady riders with an exceptional list of wins will face them and will be keen to fight it out: France’s Pénélope Leprevost, the Olympic team gold medallist, will be taking part in the CSI 4* and will support her daughter Eden Leprevost Blin Le-Breton, competing in the CSI 2*; as for Sweden’s Malin Baryard-Johnsson, the 2004 Olympic team silver medallist and the current World team silver medallist will return to very high-level competition, after a rather calm international season in 2020. “In 2021, once again, the HUBSIDE JUMPING has made a promise to be there for athletes, their owners and enthusiasts,” explains Sadri Fegaier, the President and Founder of the HUBSIDE JUMPING. A promise that will be kept on Thursday!
