WATCH: Incredible recovery leads to stunning win in NZ steeplechase
Jumps jockey Aaron Kuru produced a miraculous recovery before going on to score one of the most unlikely victories in the opening race at Awapuni on Saturday.
Kuru and his mount Des De Jeu were seemingly down and out of the Maiden Steeplechase (3200m) when the five-year-old gelding blundered at the first jump, sending both horse and jockey to the ground.
In a stunning display of horsemanship, Kuru managed to remain in control of the gelding and jumped back aboard to continue on with the race (vision below).
