Williams bows to his peers

It follows that jockeys often talk longest and most passionately about the animals that they love, but for Craig Williams this unusual spring carnival has rather showcased the values of the other visible stars of the show.

In an extraordinary year when jockeys were split into team with some of them banned from trackwork and trials and from mixing with other team riders or their families, Williams believes the spirit and comradery of his peers have shone like never in an environment so competitive, yet so empathetic.

“I’m very, very privileged to be an Australian jockey based in Victoria and that’s not to take away from other jurisdictions or states,” Williams said on reflecting on the spring carnival on Monday.
