ISS EFA Australian Showjumping Championships and Bates Sydney International 3DE

What a great show for 14 year-old Tom McDermott from Wagga. Tom was the reining Junior Champion and went in to what is the delayed 2007 Australian Championships as hot favourite. Certainly his form in the previous three days had been outstanding. Tom had great success with three Thoroughbred  horses including the talented, 'Markovich' (pictured). Tom won the final EFA Junior Grand Prix riding Markovich, but due to the point scoring system over three classes during which horse/rider combinations gain points, Tom had to settle for runner up Junior Australian Champion.

Junior rider, Erica Manosa burst onto the scene with her newly acquired 'TP Gifted'. Erica from the Philippines now lives in Sydney and attends Barker Girls College. She trains with Chris Chugg and if this weekend is anything to go by, she and 'TP Gifted' have a great future together.

James Hetherington and 'Shilo' from Duri in NSW finished fourth in the EFA Junior Grand Prix and fourth in the overall Australian Junior Championships.

What can be said about Monique Barrett and her extraordinary, 'Snowy River Ginger Megs' that has not been said before?  They have a superb partnership, which combined with heaps of talent and training with George Sanna, they claimed second place in the EFA Junior Grand Prix and won the 2007 Australian Junior Championship.

Scott Simpson rode 'Timor Archie' to take fifth place in the Fairfield City Pre Novice and earned the Erin Walker Memorial Trophy for the Highest Placed Junior in that competition.

Danielle Butcher with her wonderful 'HP Landsong' jumped three lovely clear rounds in the Young Rider Grand Prix. Danielle went into this final class  in the lead for the Championship. She had to win or come second to hold on to the title. She was fourth and was relegated to second place overall by two points.

The roof over the main arena seating has only been in place for a couple of months. It proved to be timely, as it kept most spectators high and dry. I think its main purpose was shade from the sun, but there has not been a great deal of that up here recently.

Megan Jones and her outstanding, home bred, 'Kirby Park Irish Jester', in typical pose. It is hard to imagine they could ever have a fence down. However, they just touched the first fence for the addition of four penalties. They took second place in the CCI*** with a total of 56.1 penalties.

Sonja Johnson with her own and the Saunder's super Australian Stock Horse, 'Ringwould Jaguar'. He too had an uncharacteristic showjumping rail, but he held on to first place to win the CCI*** with 49.6 penalties and claim the Robert Slade Memorial Trophy.

Wendy and Sun Set finished second overall behind Chris Chugg in the Senior Australian Showjumping Championship. A little earlier in the day, Wendy took third, fourth and fifth place in the CCI***.
