Former racetrack stars on show at Werribee

A bumper day is expected at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre this Sunday with a number of highlights across the program.

Retired champions Chautauqua and Hartnell are competing in Off the Track events, there will also be a visit from the Melbourne Cup and even Grand National races highlighted by the colours of jumps racing legends.

Twelve months ago at the same event it was the first time Chautauqua took part in an equestrian competition and while it didn’t all go to plan on that occasion rider Casey Bruce is hoping the flashy grey is in a more mature mindset and ready to perform, even though he still has a few hurdles to overcome.

“He is improving with every outing he’s competing in, his manner continues to get better and he’s a more mature horse,” said Bruce.

“But Werribee Park is always a different kettle of fish for him, it’s a bigger atmosphere, more people and flags.
