Young Rider - Dallas Merry

With her trademark smile and undeniable talent, young South Australian show rider Dallas Merry has had a stellar year in the show ring, culminating at the EA Nationals, where she won Champion Small Open Hack with her heart horse, EBL Quiver, and Champion Child's Large Show Hunter Hack with Remember IMP. Horse Deals recently spoke with Dallas to learn more about this positive and passionate young rider and what we can expect from her in 2025.


Beyond Bulla - Horse Shepherd Equine Sanctuary

Management of the sick or injured Horse in the Stable

If you own a horse, at some stage, they will get injured or sick and may require a period of stable confinement to manage their condition. The confinement of a horse can be a frustrating, stressful and difficult time for not only the horse but for you, the owner. Your veterinarian will provide case-dependent recommendations if they advise stall rest, but this article provides the horse owner with essential, general tips on managing a sick or injured horse whilst it is stabled.


Equitana Brumby Challenge Winner

Within two weeks of being caught in the wild, mountainous region of Mount Kosciuszko, a willing Brumby named Major was taking his first steps under saddle. Within 150 days the mighty little bay horse proved himself to be an eager learner for his trainer Maddison Buckner, and the pair were crowned the 2024 Australian Brumby Challenge winner at Equitana in November. Maddison shares their journey from wild Brumby to a the broke and trusting mount that Major has become.

What a Hoof Wall Can Tell Us

The hoof capsule is a remarkable structure. The hoof comprises of the outer wall, sole and frog and serves to protect the underlying sensitive tissue. The wall grows down from the coronary band as tubules and is an extension of the skin. The skin is the largest organ in the body and is an indicator of health. Because of this, the hoof wall can give us insights into the horse’s health. This article discusses the changes we see in the hoof capsule and what that means for both hoof health and overall health.


Equestrian Legend - Adam King

For some, showing Arabians in halter classes means a well-cut suit becomes sportswear. For Adam King this was most certainly the case, in fact the fire is still burning as strong as ever. Tribute to a Champion - Regardez Moi

Almost single-handedly, Regardez Moi raised the awareness of dressage in Australia and presided over a period of popularity not seen before or since. Carried through on the slipstream of the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Regardez Moi dominated Grand Prix dressage in Australia for a decade at the beginning of the 21st century. This is his tribute.

Long Reining with Skye Liikanen

Well-known and talented horsewoman Skye Liikanen operates a successful equestrian business, Silver Sky Equine, in Biddaddaba, Queensland. Skye works with horses from different disciplines to provide a solid foundation, setting the horse up right for its future career. A significant aspect of Skye’s program is long reining. She explains that this technique is suitable for horses at all levels, including young horses just beginning their saddle training and those needing re-education, particularly ex-racehorses.
