From April 20 to 23 the best equestrian circuit in the world returns to Mexico, the Longines Global Champions Tour of Mexico presented by GNP Mexico Jumping, which this season will visit 16 exclusive cities around the world.

Mexico will have the privilege of being the third venue of the 2023 circuit and the only stage in Latin America and Campo Militar Marte will once again be the center of attention of the world equestrian scene. Showjumping's heavyweights have arrived in Mexico City, where they will compete 2,250 metres above sea level as part of the diverse and far-reaching global Championship. With the top international horses in the world already arriving in Mexico’s capital city straight from Miami Beach, anticipation is building for a thrilling showcase of top sport and entertainment in front of electric crowds.

Longines Global Champions Tour Mexico presented by GNP Mexico Jumping will host 150 international riders from 24 different countries, among them current world number one, Henrik von Eckermann from Sweden. Other famous riders who will compete at Campo Marte this weekend are the likes of Marlon Modolo, Maikel Van der Vleuten and Daniel Deusser.

Mexico will be represented in the CSI5* by Nicolas Pizarro, Fernando Martinez Sommer, Antonio Chedraui, Eugenio Garza, Federico Fernandez, Arturo Parada, Andres Azcarraga.

In a pre event press conference Francisco Pasquel, director of the event said, "I am very happy to bring the most important circuit in the world to Mexico and that each time it brings more strength and prestige. I am delighted that the event is being recognized worldwide".

With the Campo Marte situated in the heart of Mexico City, the event welcomes passionate spectators and many new fans, witnessing show jumping at the highest level for the first time. Jan Tops said; "It is fantastic to be here again in this wonderful place. We are very proud to be here and thank you to Francisco and his team and the support we get from the national federation and the great partners we have here, obviously oxer sport and Longines who has been supporting us for many many years, and many years to come. Also to GNP thank you for your really great support because without them we could not be right where we are at this moment.

"This year we have a lot of people because the word has spread around that this place is not only a beautiful grass ring, but the next thing that is so unique is the people. What you will see this week we also have our GCL local team from Mexico Amigos which is good and you all notice you are very good at supporting this team, and we also have on Sunday the Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix, which with all the visitors we have, we will have a great weekend like we have in the past."

Although still early on in the season, the championship battle is in full swing with 8 of the top 10 ranked riders in the current championship standings heading to Mexico City intensifying the season race already. Maikel van der Vleuten currently on 63 points will be aiming to extend his lead this week but Malin Baryard Johnsson will be hot on his heels just one point behind on 62 and known for good form in the expansive grass arena in Mexico City.

With a golden ticket for the Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix at the GC Prague Playoffs in the forefront of their minds, the stars of show jumping know a strong start at the beginning of the season could pay dividends as the battle unfolds. However, the 16 event season will be a true test for the most rounded and consistent athletes in the sport, challenging the best in unique locations worldwide, from expansive grass arenas such as Mexico City and Madrid’s Club de Campo, to the small yacht-lined stage set in Monaco’s Port Hercule.

With over 20,000 fans in attendance, LGCT Mexico City has become an unmissable event on the show jumping calendar. Fans around the world will be able to watch via GCTV, the live streaming service, which this year features further innovations, expert analysis and the best view of the sporting action from the comfort of a tablet or laptop.
