Payne to face tribunal after horse tests positive to banned race day substance

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne says a Racing Victoria charge over a horse she trained that returned a positive drug sample is “a learning curve” that has taught her to allow extra time after any veterinary treatment.

Racing Victoria said on Monday it had charged Payne after finding prohibited levels of an anti-inflammatory drug in a urinary sample taken from Jukila before the horse won a race at the Bendigo Cup last year.
