Riding for Disabled Tamworth competitors' success at dressage event

Tamworth Riding for the Disabled dressage riders trotted their way over to compete at the Regional Development Australia (RDA) State Dressage Championships.

The locals competed at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC) and came home pleased with their results.

The group consisted of five women and their horses, who train every week, coach Peter Daley said.

"We are so extremely proud of our team of riders. They have worked extremely hard for these results," he said.

"All of the riders achieved personal bests, with many great results."

The competitors rode very well in various competitions including Prix Caprilli dressage tests and gymkhana working equation.

The riders came home with many achievements, including the SIEC Horse of the Weekend title, won by Geebung Smarty Pants, ridden by Sarah Hoskins.

Other award recipients were:

Emma Garment on Geebung Icecream placed 1st in the interstate and NSW grade 2 dressage competition
Samantha Ross came reserve champion in grade 4.1
Kelly Usher on Geebung Jake placed 2nd in one of her grade 1.2 efforts
Nikkita Butler, riding Greentree Madness, achieved 3rd and 4th placings

"The weekend is a fabulous opportunity for the riders to be able to compete at the venue that hosted the Sydney Olympics," Mr Daley said.

"It is also an opportunity to meet others who, like the girls, share their passion of riding and horses.

"This wouldn't have been possible without the knowledge of Jo Dernee-Manion and her invaluable time she has given to the girls in providing their coaching.

"We are also very grateful to the Tamworth community, our sponsors of the RDA Riders - Horseland, Tamworth Dressage Club, the carers, the volunteers, as well as individuals and businesses who support RDA in Tamworth.

"We hope these girls can provide inspiration for others to follow their dreams."
