State school students permitted to wear uniforms at equestrian competition

Queensland state school students will now be allowed to compete at equestrian events on behalf of their school after Education Minister Grace Grace asked the department to review its ban.

About a week before Equestrian Queensland's Interschool State Championships, some students discovered the education department had issued a directive that they could not represent their schools at the event.

At the time the department told ABC Radio Brisbane it made the decision after regional offices asked about safety assessments and for information about affiliation with Equestrian Queensland.

The ban would have affected students from about 80 state schools set to compete at the event in Toowoomba next week.
