Water security assured for Warwick Rodeo and Gold Cup Campdraft

Despite severe water restrictions in the Southern Downs region, planning for the 2019 Warwick Rodeo and Gold Cup Campdraft is under way, without placing pressure on the town's water supply.

A spokesperson for the Warwick Show and Rodeo Society said they have worked tirelessly to reduce the impact on the town water supply.

"We recently met with Southern Downs Regional Council, Department of Natural Resources and local water services to work on an achievable outcome," the spokesperson said.

"We have been advised that our metered bore sits at 11 megalitres and has 80 per cent usage available, and this will maintain the grounds and the well being of stock on-site. We believe this to be a sufficient amount of water to support our event and decrease the pressure on the town water supply."

The spokesperson said it had been a challenging year sourcing available stock, but they were hoping to maintain the same runs and events as 2018 for the event in October.

"Any assistance is always appreciated in regard to cattle sponsorship and sponsorship in general to help maintain the event," the spokesperson said.

The committee is also liaising with Lifeline and other drought agencies as well to help provide support for the community not just for the event but for the foreseeable future.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said he understands the importance of events like the Warwick Rodeo to the local economy.

"I will collaboratively work with Warwick Show and Rodeo Society and with the Southern Down Regional Council to ensure this iconic Warwick event continues."

The Warwick Rodeo and Gold Cup Campdraft will be held from October 21 to 27 and boosts the locally economy by an estimated $2.8million per annum.
