Adkins' true grit a reminder of the dangers jockeys face every day

Andrew Adkins came out of last Saturday’s horrendous fall at Rosehill Gardens with more injuries than Ron Quinton, a champion against hectic competition, sustained over 28 years, yet while being carted off in the ambulance flashed his smile, albeit with a neck brace, mask and something stuck in his mouth.

The smile? Under normal circumstances it lights up the surrounding area, and even with duress refused to be quelled.
