Ala Nikanorava of Belarus Provisionally Suspended for 2 Months for Controlled Medication Substances in World Cup Horse Vaksayd

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, Nov. 1, 2018–Ala Nikanorava of Belarus has been been provisionally suspended for two months after controlled medication substances were found in Vaksayd at a Moscow World Cup event in September.

Suspension of the Belarus team rider began Tuesday, Oct. 30 after the report to the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) of the finding of controlled medication substances oxyphenbutazone, phenylbutazone and dexamethasone in the 11-year-old Belarus-born Hanoverian gelding. The substances are commonly used to treat horses but have to be cleared from a horse’s system for competition.

The 38-year-old rider, who competed Vatikan for Belarus at the 2017 European Championships, has started Vaksayd four times at two World Cup events since since taking over the mount in June this year.
