Robe River Rodeo celebrates 25 years with biggest crowd ever

A record crowd flocked to the small Pilbara town of Pannawonica to celebrate the 25th annual Robe River Rodeo and Campdraft this weekend.

Organisers asked visitors to "get back in the saddle" after last year's rodeo was postponed due to COVID-19 — and the punters were only too happy to oblige.

Administrators counted 3,885 people in total passed through the gates over the course of the weekend, which made it the biggest event in the rodeo's history.

"Last year not having it, I realised how much it sort of cripples you, not being able to go out and socialise, because it is a huge social event for us," competitor Emma Gibbs said.
