Rushard a victim of a 'rare incident'

Racing Victoria has revealed that Rushard, who was humanely euthanised on course at Cranbourne on Sunday, suffered a severe head injury prior to Race 7.

As revealed on Monday on racing.com, Rushard was scratched at 3:55pm after an incident in the barriers, which dislodged jockey Brian Werner.

RV spokesman Shaun Kelly said on Tuesday that Rushard had suffered 'head trauma' in the stalls prior to the race.

"Rushard was attended to by the on-course veterinary team, who determined that it was in the best interests of the horse that it be humanely euthanized," Kelly said.
