Spruce Meadows an 'iconic, old-school' destination among international horsey set

They travel from horse show to horse show around the globe, splitting time between Florida, Europe and Calgary.

International show jumpers are an eclectic blend of seasoned professional riders at the top of their game and the highly moneyed who are attracted to the sport for the travel and lifestyle of a certain social strata.

They converge on Calgary every year in June to spend a month riding and competing in the Spruce Meadows Summer Series.

The Founders’ Classic show-jumping tournament took place over the weekend — a three-star-rated show compared to the more difficult five-star to come this week at the National tournament.
